OEM Air Filters
Your vehicle uses two air filters -- an engine air filter and a cabin air filter. They're both integral to how well your motor and HVAC work. What does an air filter do? Generally, it traps airborne particulate in specially pleated fibers made of cotton, synthetic paper, or foam. Your engine filter, for its part, helps keep dirt and muck from getting into your throttle body's air intake and accumulating on your fuel injectors and spark plugs, among other components. Your cabin filter helps keep allergens from building up throughout your HVAC system. If that car or truck you love didn't have either filter type, those contaminants would start to wear out all sorts of auto parts and systems fast. Unfortunately, even the best air filters don't last forever. Put simply, they degrade with age or clog. When they get congested, more trouble follows -- everything from higher emissions and lower gas mileage to engine stress, even to engine misfires. Your heater and air conditioning systems can even malfunction. The best way to prevent this is to change your air filters regularly.
What Are the Signs It's Time to Replace a Car Air Filter?
There's a few, and they're easy to spot. They include a lit Check Engine light, dirty or degraded surface fibers, weird engine noise, and unclean cabin odors. Your vehicle can even start producing too much exhaust. If you see these symptoms, it's probably time for a change. Otherwise, consult your owner's manual's filter maintenance schedule to find out when. It's recommended you take care of it about every 12,000 to 15,000 miles. When it's time to buy new air filters, be sure to order genuine. What comes from your brand's factory will fit your model best. You can get what you need right here online at our auto parts store.
